Selected by the Flyers with the 41st overall pick in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft, Zezel began his NHL career in Philadelphia in 1984 as a rookie. His first season was also Bob Clarke's first as general manager, Mike Keenan's first as coach. Zezel was part of a rebirth of Flyers hockey in 1984. On May 26, 2009, at the age of 44, Zezel lost his battle with a rare blood disorder.
Pelle Lindbergh died on November 11, 1985 after sustaining injuries in a car crash. The Flyers added his number to the jerseys and wore them the remainder of the season.
